MY STORY

Why I do this work

I grew up overweight. Not in a way anyone talked about openly, but in a way that quietly shaped how I felt about myself from a very young age. I watched my mother spend her whole life at war with her body and her confidence, and without realising it, I inherited both her struggle and her self-doubt. The teasing at school, the clothes that never seemed to fit right, the way I would shrink myself before I had even tried to take up space. I know that feeling from the inside.

What changed everything was discovering that the problem was never willpower. It was information. Not the generic kind that tells everyone to eat the same way, but the kind built around your specific metabolism. When I finally understood what my body actually needed, the results were profound. And so was the shift in how I saw myself.

I became a nutritionist because I did not want anyone else to spend as many years confused as I did. I wanted to offer something genuinely personal, grounded in science, that removed the guesswork and replaced confusion with clarity. That is what brought me to Metabolic Balance. And that is what I bring to every client who sits across from me.

When a client cries in a first consultation because she has finally found someone who understands, I do not reach for clinical distance. I sit in it with her. Because I know exactly what it feels like to be in that chair. And I know what is possible on the other side of it.

MY APPROACH

How I work

Every program begins with a 36-marker blood test. Not as a formality, but as the actual foundation of your food plan. The foods on your plan, and the amounts you eat, are determined by what your blood tells us your body needs. This is Metabolic Balance, an internationally recognised clinical methodology, and it is how I ensure that no two clients are ever given the same plan. Because no two metabolisms are the same.

Beyond the plan itself, the work is deeply human. Accountability matters. Honesty matters. I will tell you the truth when something is slowing your progress. I will name the self-sabotage before it derails the results. I will celebrate a good night of sleep as enthusiastically as I celebrate a kilogram lost, because the emotional shift and the physical shift are not separate. They happen together.

I also follow my own program. I am not prescribing something I do not believe in or use myself. I eat this way, I live these principles, and I know from the inside what my clients experience at every stage of the process.

01

Personalised, not templated

Your plan is built from your blood, not a generic framework.

02

Accountability built in

Fortnightly check-ins across every program tier.

03

Honesty without judgment

I tell clients what they need to hear, with genuine care behind it.

04

Sustainable by design

This is a way of living, not a program to white-knuckle through.

A GOOD FIT

Is this the right fit for you?

My programs work best for women who are ready to understand their body rather than fight it, and who are prepared to follow a structured plan with real support behind them.

If you have tried other programs and found the results did not last, or you eat well and still cannot understand why your body is not responding, you are likely exactly who I work best with.

01

You have tried other programs and know you need more than a plan. You need accountability and genuine support.

02

You are ready to commit to a structured approach, even during the harder weeks.

03

You want to understand what your body actually needs, not just follow rules without knowing why..

04

You value honesty and a practitioner who will tell you the truth, with care behind it.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

Outside the clinic

I live near the water in Scarborough, which is very much where I belong. My dog Bailey comes everywhere with me and features on my Instagram more than I probably planned. I train at the gym four to five days a week, mostly strength work, and it is something I feel genuinely passionate about for women over 40. Beyond the clinic, I spend a lot of time talking about what is actually inside the food we have been told is healthy, and I am not quiet about it. Food literacy is one of the most powerful things a woman can have in her corner.

IN THEIR WORDS

  • Client testimonial quote mark Uniquely You Nutrition

Melissa has been absolutely wonderful throughout my MB journey so far. She has been very encouraging and always recognises even the small wins, which I often overlook myself. Her knowledge is excellent, which has been extremely valuable in suggesting alternative options to try when things are not quite working as expected. She has a very calm, patient and caring approach.

Wow what can I say ... Metabolic Balance was definitely a game changer for me. Although the main aim for me was to learn about eating to sustain my health and training regime, I also lost inches and weight in a relatively short time (still maintaining my new improved look).

Melissa designed a plan to help realign my gut and the side benefit was that it will assist with some weight loss. So, I agreed.

4 months later, my waist has reduced dramatically, I’m wearing new clothes and sleeping a good 7 hours every night, I have more energy and feel better in every way. And oh yeah, on 9th April. 2024 I now weigh 90 kilos!!
